Unused Christmas trees given to Berlin Zoo animals

Animals at Berlin Zoo have been given unused Christmas trees to feed on and play with as part of a growing tradition following the festive season.

Elephants and giraffes at the Zoologischer Garten zoo in Berlin are among the animals still enjoying the festive season, having been given leftover trees that were not sold before the Christmas holidays.

The zoo makes use of unsold trees from select vendors by giving them to the animals to prevent them going to waste. The zoo says it doesn’t accept trees from the public, which could contain chemicals or leftover decorations.

The tree-giving has become an annual event at the zoo, with visitors watching the animals keeping themselves occupied with the fir trees.
