Protesters block roads in Beirut, other parts of Lebanon

Hundreds of anti-government protesters blocked roads in Beirut and in other parts of Lebanon, in a bid to press for political change.

A semblance of normality had gradually returned to the country last week after Saad al-Hariri resigned as prime minister.

While banks reopened for the first time in two weeks, schools continued to remain closed.

Hariri continues in a caretaker capacity until a new government is formed.

The nationwide protests were triggered on October 17 after the government announced its decision to tax WhatsApp messages.
