North Korean and US negotiators meet to break nuclear stalemate

Officials from the US and North Korea have gathered at an isolated conference centre on the outskirts of Stockholm to begin nuclear talks.

It's the first formal working-level talks between the two countries after US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un met in June.

The delegations have been led by US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun and North Korea's Kim Myong Gil.

"I am encouraged that US and DPRK working level delegations are currently in Sweden to hold talks. Dialogue needed to reach denuclearization and peaceful solution," Sweden's newly-appointed Foreign Minister Ann Linde said on Twitter.

The North Korean team arrived in Sweden on Thursday after Pyongyang unexpectedly said talks would take place on October 5.
