Iraq, Syria announce temporary closure of airspace

Iraq and Syria's civil aviation authorities have announced the temporary closure of their airspace as a precautionary measure following regional tensions.

Iraq's airspace will remain closed for a total period of 72 hours, its local aviation authority announced on Sunday night. 

It also denied reports that a civilian aircraft had crashed inside its territory airspace, saying "no such incident had been recorded".

Meanwhile, Syria's southern air corridors closed at 11:00 pm on Sunday, and are expected to reopen at 11:00 am on Monday, according to its local aviation authority. 

The authority said the measure also includes the suspension of operational activities at Damascus International Airport.

They added that the decision comes in light of recent regional developments and is "based on ongoing technical assessments conducted through the specialised risk management committee".
