Indonesia willing to send peacekeeping troops to Gaza

Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto announced on Saturday that his country is ready to send peacekeeping forces to implement a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip if necessary.

Prabowo said in a speech during the Shangri-La Dialogue Summit, the biggest security forum in Asia held in Singapore that US President Joe Biden’s proposal regarding a ceasefire in Gaza is a step in the right direction.

• The first phase will last for 6 weeks and includes a comprehensive ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the main population centres in Gaza in exchange for the release of women, the wounded, and the elderly hostages held by Hamas, hundreds of Palestinians from Israeli prisons, and the return of the residents of the northern Gaza Strip to their areas. If the negotiations take more than 6 weeks, the ceasefire will continue as long as the talks continue. During the first phase, Israel will negotiate with Hamas to reach the second phase, which will see the war end permanently.
• The second phase of the proposal will see the release of the remaining living hostages while Israeli army forces withdraw from Gaza, the ceasefire continues, and humanitarian aid is raised at a rate of 600 trucks per day.
• The third phase is to implement a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza.
