Another politician has exited the race to become the next Conservative leader and British Prime Minister.

Matt Hancock announced on Friday that he was no longer running for the position.

It comes a day after the health secretary came sixth in the opening ballot of the party's MPs.

At 40 years of age, Hancock was the youngest contender in the race to succeed Theresa May.

Boris Johnson received the most number of votes in Thursday’s first MPs' ballot.

Johnson won 114 votes followed by Jeremy Hunt who got 43 and Michael Gove with 37.

Mark Harper, Andrea Leadsom and Esther McVey were eliminated from the race.
