GCC parliamentary speakers stress unified stance against Iranian attacks

WAM

Speakers of the legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council have stressed the importance of adopting a unified Gulf position and working toward resolutions at the Inter-Parliamentary Union condemning recent Iranian attacks on GCC states.

They described the attacks as an unjustified escalation, a violation of international law and humanitarian norms, and a direct threat to regional security and stability.

The remarks came during a coordination meeting held on the sidelines of the 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul, hosted by Turkey’s Grand National Assembly.

UAE Federal National Council Speaker Saqr Ghobash took part in the meeting, leading the UAE delegation.

He emphasised the need for stronger coordination among GCC parliamentary councils to enhance their collective influence in regional and international forums, particularly in light of current challenges.

Ghobash also called for unified positions on key agenda items, saying this would reinforce Gulf unity and strengthen its role in global parliamentary decision-making.

He added that the Iranian attacks reflect attempts to destabilise the region and called for a firm international parliamentary stance that upholds state sovereignty.

Participants also discussed the importance of safeguarding air and maritime navigation, securing supply chains and maintaining stability in global energy markets, highlighting that Gulf stability remains essential to the global economy.
