It’s been revealed that a man shot dead in a Nicaragua prison earlier this week was a naturalized US citizen who served in the Navy.
According to Eddy Montes’ family, he returned to the Central American country where he fought for a change in government.
He died on Thursday when him and fellow inmates attempted to snatch a gun from a guard.
The incident happened while the International Red Cross was visiting the prison.
The Nicaraguan interior ministry said the guard shot Montes in self-defense.
Montes was sentenced to prison for protesting against Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega last year.
