Delhi police in ‘shooting’ row as citizenship law protests spread

STR / AFP

Police in the Indian capital have come under the scanner for allegedly firing live rounds at people during a protest against the citizenship bill.

At least three people said they were being treated for bullet injuries, but the police dismissed their claims as "wounds caused by broken tear gas canisters".

"We have not shot anyone and we do not have rubber bullets," said Joint Commissioner of Police Devesh Srivastava.

Some media reports confirmed hospital records as showing that a "foreign object" was removed from an injured.
