At least two people died and a number were swept away after a bridge over the Indrayani river in the western Indian city of Pune collapsed on Sunday, Maharashtra statechief minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
"Some people got swept away, so a search operation is underway on a war footing to find them," he said on social media platform X, adding 6 people have been rescued while 32 were injured, including 6 in critical condition.
Police and disaster relief workers, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have reached the spot to help in rescue efforts.
Kundmala is a popular tourist destination that sees huge number of visitors during the monsoons, local media said, adding that the incident happened when scores of tourists were on the bridge.
In a post on social media channel X, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said a search is being carried out "on war footing".
The bridge collapse comes as an orange alert remains in place for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, with heavy rain forecasted for the region.
