Tamayo Perry, who featured in blockbuster movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, has died following a shark attack off Goat Island, in the US.

The incident was reported by a witness who observed Perry suffering from apparent shark bites near Malaekahana Beach.

Emergency services responded swiftly, bringing Perry ashore via jet ski, where paramedics pronounced him dead.

The 49-year-old was a renowned lifeguard and surfing instructor, along with having starred in Hollywood films such as Charlie's Angels 2.

Perry, who joined the Ocean Safety department in 2016, was highly regarded among his colleagues and the surfing community on the North Shore of Oahu.

Kurt Lager, Acting Chief of Honolulu Ocean Safety, described Perry as "a lifeguard loved by all," noting his infectious personality and global reputation as a skilled surfer.

In response to the incident, Ocean Safety personnel promptly issued shark warnings in the area, underscoring the ongoing risks associated with ocean activities in Hawaii's coastal waters.
