Pakistani Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy wins second Academy Award

Pakistan journalist and filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won her second Academy Award. The 37-year-old director picked up the award for Best Documentary Short for "A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness", a searing look into honour killings. The film tells the story of a young woman who survived a murder attempt by her father after she wed without his permission. "This is what happens when determined women get together," Obaid-Chinoy declared in her acceptance speech. "This week the Pakistani prime minister has said that he will change the law on honour killing after watching this film. That is the power of film." Obaid-Chinoy previously picked up the Academy Award for Best Documentary four years ago for "Saving Face".
