'Frozen' the musical is to open on Broadway. Disney have announced plans for a stage production based on the 2013 blockbuster, which will open in the prestigious New York theatre district in spring 2018 after a stint at an as-yet disclosed venue in summer 2017. A new Twitter account, @FrozenBroadway was set up to announce the news, in a post which read: "FROZEN is slated for Broadway spring 2018 following a pre‐Broadway engagement summer 2017 http://www.FrozenTheMusical.com" Golden Globe Award and two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers - who was behind the Broadway show 'Peter and the Starcatcher' - will serve as the production's director, while Tony winner Peter Darling will serve as choreographer. A number of creatives from the movie will be working on the musical, including writer Jennifer Lee and composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. A cast for the production has yet to be announced, but theatre veteran Idina Menzel - who voiced Queen Elsa in the animated movie - has previously admitted she'd love to reprise the role in a live adaptation. Asked about the possibility, she said: "Yes! Sure! Absolutely! "It was such a dream of mine to be in the Disney family and become an animated queen." 'Frozen' is the highest-grossing animated movie in history, earning almost $1.3 billion at the global box office. It won two Oscars, for both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, for 'Let It Go'.
