Brandy sues label for $1 million

Brandy is suing her record label for $1 million for allegedly blocking her from creating new music. The 37-year-old R&B singer - whose real name is Brandy Norwood - claims Chameleon Entertainment Group have stopped her from recording material since 2012 and she has now filed a lawsuit seeking compensatory damages from the company. According to legal documents, Chameleon claim they "will not pay for her to record new albums or allow her to otherwise release music to her fans" in "a blatantly unlawful attempt to bully Norwood into signing a new recording and distribution agreement containing terms far worse than her current agreement." The documents, which were obtained by Entertainment Weekly magazine, state that Brandy was expecting to be paid $600,000 following the release of her 2012 album 'Two Eleven, in order to produce her second album for the label. However, the lawsuit states that "events occurred that led Defendants to want to delay Norwood from working on her second album". Brandy first signed to RCA and Chameleon in 2011 and before that she was with Atlantic Records from 1993 to 2004, but left after making four albums and departed ways with them because she wanted to "move on". The 'The Boy Is Mine' star didn't sign a new deal until 2008 after her plans were stalled after she was involved in a car accident in 2006, resulting in her car hitting Awatef Aboudihaj, who died from his injuries. She was cleared of all charges. Brandy then signed to Epic Records and released her 'Human' LP later that year. However, she had her contract terminated in 2009.
