The UAE will showcase the success of its peaceful nuclear energy programme at a major international conference in Prague next week.
The World Association of Nuclear Operators’ (WANO) Biennial General Meeting will run from October 9-11.
It will bring together companies and countries involved in commercial nuclear operations, who will explore ways to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise.
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has been an active WANO member since 2010, regularly participating in the organisation’s workshops, events and training programmes with Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, ENEC Managing Director and CEO, elected to the WANO Atlanta Center Governing Board in August 2015.
WANO’s mission is to maximise the safety and reliability of nuclear energy plants worldwide.
The group includes more than 120 members responsible for operating more than 430 civil nuclear reactors worldwide.
The first two units of the UAE's Barakah Plant are currently generating clean electricity, while the third reactor is gearing up for commercial operations and the fourth unit is in the final stages of commissioning.
The nuclear sector as a whole is a vital part of the UAE’s clean energy ecosystem of low-carbon technologies, ensuring the reliability, efficiency and resilience of the national grid for at least the next 60 years.
