The UAE and Iran have explored ways to expand economic cooperation in sectors such as tourism, transport, entrepreneurship and renewable energy.

The talks were held in Abu Dhabi during the first session of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC), chaired by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, and Mehrdad Bazrpash, Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development.

The meeting discussed new mechanisms to enhance trade exchanges and the key role played by the private sector in promoting economic cooperation.

"The convening of the first session of the UAE-Iran JEC reflects our shared aspirations to solidify existing economic ties and expand them to the future sectors. These efforts are in line with the UAE leadership’s vision to strengthen the country’s bilateral cooperation with global partners," said Bin Touq.

The two sides agreed to establish a technical task force to follow up on the outputs of the meeting and promote the growth of SMEs and support their export entry in new markets..

The Iranian delegation was also briefed about recent amendments to the UAE's visa and residency systems as well as the introduction of laws related to trade, family businesses and commercial agencies.
