Dubai added 98 new economic activities to vital sectors last year, which is an increase of 88 per cent compared to 2020.

According to the Department of Economy and Tourism's (DET) Business Registration & Licensing (BRL) sector, the latest additions take the total number of economic activities in the emirate to more than 2,200.

It said activities are added based on periodic evaluation and survey of local market needs, and supply and demand criteria.

The new activities cover specialised areas such as: green hydrogen production, artificial intelligence developing services, gaming localization services, industrial consultancies, 3D printing building construction contracting, space consultancies, plant based dairy manufacturing, early childhood centre and gaming production service.

Virtual reality & augmented reality provision & development services, video games consoles manufacturing, storage environments temperature verification services, news services via websites, coworking spaces operation, and underwater photography services were also introduced last year.

"Dubai has expanded the horizons for business sectors to meet the needs of urban development, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced legislative environment to establish the city as one of the leading investment, commercial and tourism centres in the world," said Waleed Abdul Malik, Director of Business Registration in the BRL sector.

He added that the BRL sector focuses on facilitating the procedures for obtaining a licence for companies, and developing services to promote the growth of the private sector, which is a major contributor to the economy.
