DP World launches 36-hour Dubai-Iraq sea link

Dubai Media Office

DP World has launched a 36-hour maritime service linking Dubai’s Mina Rashid with Iraq’s Umm Qasr Port, offering a faster alternative to overland trucking.

Each sailing can carry up to 145 accompanied trailers.

The route will be served by the DP World Express, a dedicated roll-on/roll-off vessel that has just been upgraded at Drydocks World. It’s scheduled to begin operations in December 2025.

The launch ceremony at Mina Rashid brought together senior officials from the UAE and Iraq.

The new service will transport full trailer units with drivers on board, offering a secure, direct door-to-door solution between the UAE and Iraq. It’s expected to cut transit time, reduce border complexities, and support onward movement into neighbouring countries.

DP World says the corridor will strengthen access to Iraq’s commercial hubs and boost wider regional trade. On return journeys, the vessel will carry export cargo from Iraq back to the UAE, improving efficiency on both sides.

The company adds that shifting to a direct maritime route will help businesses plan more reliably, while also reducing carbon emissions compared with traditional transport options.
