Commercial establishments in Abu Dhabi emirate are showing high levels of compliance with the rules related to consumer protection and intellectual property rights.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) said there was a 27.5 per cent decline in warnings issued to businesses during the first quarter of this year, despite a nearly 15 per cent increase in the number of field inspections.

There was also a significant drop in complaints raised by consumers.

As many as 51,149 inspection campaigns and supervisory visits were carried out in outlets across Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra and Al Ain between January and March.

The checks covered retail outlets, groceries, vegetable, fruits, and fish markets as well as salons.

"The commercial activity report provides positive indicators about commercial protection effectiveness, adherence of commercial establishment and outlets to laws and regulations, and enhanced level of awareness about consumer rights," said Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Business Centre at ADDED.

"Increasing the number of inspection and supervisory visits and campaigns during the first quarter came as part of our efforts to ensure that commercial outlets are observing rules and safety of consumers and employees in addition to support the business sector and protect intellectual property and consumers rights," he added.
