Abu Dhabi has launched its first pilot programme for autonomous delivery vehicles.

The initiative is being rolled out by the Integrated Transport Centre, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, in partnership with tech firm K2 and logistics provider EMX.

Under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, the pilot marks a major milestone, including the emirate’s first official licence plate issued for a self-driving delivery vehicle.

The "Auto-Delivery" vehicles, developed by K2’s subsidiary Autogo, use advanced AI and smart mobility technology to navigate city streets and deliver packages without human input.

Their first trial is now underway in Masdar City and is expected to expand across Abu Dhabi soon.

It’s part of the emirate’s broader vision to make 25 per cent of all trips smart and sustainable by 2040, building on earlier successes such as the introduction of autonomous taxis in key areas of the city.
