UAE evacuates 86 critically wounded patients from Gaza

WAM

In a humanitarian initiative supported by the World Health Organization, the UAE evacuated 86 critically wounded patients from the Gaza Strip to Abu Dhabi.

The patients, including children and cancer patients, were accompanied by 124 family members.

The evacuation took place via Ramon Airport in Israel and the Kerem Shalom crossing, marking the UAE's 22nd mission of this kind.

The UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, emphasised the country’s continued commitment to supporting Palestinians, particularly those in need of advanced medical care.

He reaffirmed the UAE's role in partnering with the UN and other international bodies to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The evacuation is part of an initiative launched by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide treatment for 1,000 children and 1,000 cancer patients. To date, over 2,100 patients and their companions have been brought to the UAE for treatment.

Since December 2023, the UAE has also established field hospitals in Gaza and a floating medical ship in Egypt, providing extensive medical care to thousands of patients.

The UAE has also sent over 43,000 tonnes of aid, including medical supplies and food, to support the Palestinian people.
