Tropical situation in Arabian Sea to have no direct impact on UAE

The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said on Friday it is closely monitoring a tropical depression centred in the south of the Arabian Sea.

It's expected to become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours with no direct impact on the country.

However, the flow of moisture from the Arabian Sea on the eastern and southern regions could lead to the formation of cumulus clouds accompanied by rainfall.

"Through numerical models and reports issued by the regional hurricane monitoring centre, the tropical depression is expected to deepen more and become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours, and its path will be towards the west to northwest in the Arabian Sea, where the wind speed ranges between 60 to 80 kph around the centre," the NCM said in a statement.

The weather bureau urged the public not to fall for rumours and to rely only on information from official sources.
