UAE flights to and from London's Heathrow airport have been impacted after a huge fire at an electrical substation in West London led to the airport closure.

Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways have confirmed cancellations and diversions in their flight schedule due to the Heathrow closure.

In an update on their official website, the Dubai carrier said flights EK001/002, EK029/030 and EK031/032 were cancelled on Friday, March 21.

"Passengers booked or connecting onto the cancelled flights to London Heathrow will not be accepted for travel," Emirates added, advising passengers to contact their booking agents or local Emirates office for rebooking options.

In an update on Etihad's website, the UAE national carrier said flights - EY63 Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow, EY64 London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi, EY65 Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow and EY66 London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi - have been cancelled.

Meanwhile, EY61 service from Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow on Friday has been diverted to Frankfurt.

"The safety of our guests and crew is our number one priority and we regret any inconvenience caused by this disruption," the airline added.

The UAE airlines said they were monitoring the situation and urged passengers to check their official website for updates.
