Submissions have opened for the first edition of a major initiative to honour food establishments in Dubai for their excellence in standards for safety, nutrition, sustainability and social responsibility.

Dubai Municipality said that the primary goal of its DM Food Elite Programme is to encourage food outlets to continue surpassing and raising the standard of living in the emirate.

The programme will recognise food businesses operating in three distinct categories. Three establishments each will be selected from independent dine-in restaurants; restaurants that are a part of hotels; and fast-food outlets and cafeteria.

The outlets will be evaluated and selected based on five criteria, which include measures taken to foster a robust food safety culture, commitment to nutrition, health and sustainability initiatives of the government, and additional measures such as digital adoption and innovation in business.

  • The sustainability standard includes indicators such as environmental responsibility, social impact and governance practices.
  • The standard for food safety excellence incorporates indicators such as the management's commitment to food safety and proactive measures taken to ensure safety across the supply chain.
  • Technology and innovation criteria will focus on the efforts taken by establishments to maintain advanced traceability and transparency in food supply, data-driven insights, and decision-making.

Sultan Al Taher, Director of Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasised that the programme is the result of its continuous efforts and commitment to create a sustainable food system.

Registration Platform

Food establishments that are interested in participating in the programme can submit their registration applications online. The programme is open for submissions until June 30, 2024.
