New rules are being introduced in Abu Dhabi to ensure that construction activities don't lead to road safety issues.

The emirate has made it mandatory to get permits from the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) before undertaking any construction work that could result in traffic detours.

Proper barriers must be erected while carrying out deep excavation, while vehicles working on projects must not block the flow of traffic or right of way.

A safety official must be present at the worksite, which must also have pedestrian or cycling paths.

The new regulations will come into effect in Abu Dhabi City on October 1, followed by Al Ain and Al Dhafra at the beginning of 2021.
