The opening stage of the UAE Tour 2025 was taken by Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), with the Italian sprinter finishing ahead of Jasper Philipsen and Finn Fisher-Black.
Belgian rider Philipsen was later demoted to 52nd for hampering Fisher-Black in the final metres before the finish line.
The New Zealander inherited second place, with Denmark's Tobias Lund Andresen third.
Milan is also the first Red Jersey of the race as he leads the General Classification.
Stage 1 featured a 138 km race from the Shams solar power station to Liwa Palace, in Al Dhafra region.
