Top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and third seed Daniil Medvedev have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with straight-sets wins.
Auger-Aliassime beat France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6–4, 6–4, while Medvedev saw off Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka 6–2, 6–3.
The Russian will face American Jenson Brooksby in the last eight, after he knocked out seventh seed Karen Khachanov 7–6, 6–4.
Wawrinka, 40, who will retire at the end of the season, was presented with a traditional khanjar and a cake from tournament organisers before being applauded off Centre Court by an appreciative crowd.
Wawrinka, who made his debut in the emirate 20 years ago this week against compatriot Roger Federer and went on to win the title a decade later in 2016, had opened his campaign impressively against Lebanon’s Benjamin Hassan on Monday.
Yet Medvedev – also crowned champion in 2023 – proved too large a hurdle.
