All over the United States there are petitions and protests to get certain statues removed due to their relationship with the US Civil War or oppressive figures from history. Now in Louisiana, they’re taking it to the next level.  A petition is currently being passed around the US state to get some statues replaced with monuments to Louisiana Native Britney Spears.  The singer grew up there, and as the petition states, she donated heavily to help the state recover from 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.

Louisiana isn’t the only one getting in on the action. Tennessee is considering replacing a statue with themed country music legend Dolly Parton.   Taylor Swift spoke on the subject of statues honoring those who oppressed others based on race.

Country music group lady Antebellum changed their name this weekend to just Lady
A, which is kind of a nickname fans had given them over the years. The word antebellum literally means in the times before the US Civil War, the time period which they felt reflected their style of music. The group said they were “regretful and embarrassed” that they didn’t recognize that period also included slavery, and could be hurtful.
