Meg-xit is a go!  After a family gathering at Buckingham Palace yesterday, Queen Elizabeth II has given her begrudging blessing to Prince Harry and Megan Markel becoming more financially independent and living part-time in North America, distancing themselves from their royale duties.  In a statement the Queen said, “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

The Queen continued, “Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.

"It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

"These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days."

Jury selection for accused sexual predator Harvey Weinstein’s trial is well underway and model Gigi Hadid is a potential juror.  Despite the fact that Gigi is friends with Cara Delevingne, one of Weinstein‘s many accusers, and has at least met another accuser Salma Hayek in the past, she still thinks she could keep an open mind if she was on the jury.  When asked by the judge if she thought she could be impartial, Gigi said, “ I think I’m still able to keep an open mind on the facts.”

I can’t imagine Harvey’s defense team really giving her the green light, but it makes for interesting goss.  Meanwhile, look at this photo of Gigi holding a flamingo exactly the way I’d like to hold a flamingo.

Academy Award nominations are out and Joker leads all films with 11 nods, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, and Best Director for Todd Phillips.  The film just beat out three others, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and The Irishman which all had 10 nominations.

Scarlett Johansson has to be excited. She was nominated for her first and second Oscar on the same day.  She’s up for best actress and best supporting actress in two different films, Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, respectively.

And there were definitely some snubs that people are talking about. Firstly, there was no female directing nomination. Also Beyoncé didn’t get a nomination for Best Song in that category for her track “SPIRIT.”  Awkwafina was ignored by the Academy even though she won best actress at the Golden Globes for her role in The Farewell.  Jennifer Lopez got nothing for her critically acclaimed role in Hustlers.  Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, and Lupita Nyong’o also received zero nominations despite their previous successes in other awards ceremonies this season.  Just saying, it wouldn’t be surprising if #OscarsSoWhite trends again this year.  Academy Awards go down February 9 in Los Angeles.
