Jeff Bezos is stepping down as CEO of Amazon.  In a post on the Amazon blog addressed to “Amazonians,” a what he calls his employees, Bezos says effective in Q3, he’s moving into a new role as executive chairman of the company, and that Amazon’s Andy Jassy will assume the CEO position. Bezos says as chairman he’ll concentrate his energies on new products and initiatives.  He says, “this isn’t about retiring,” and that he’s “never had more energy.”  He’ll focus on things like his space program Blue Origin.

Ariana Grande has broken another Guinness World Record. Ari now has the most debut singles to chart at #1 their first week on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  “Positions” was her fifth #1 debut. She broke her own record of four.  Her previous #1 debuts are “Thank U Next,” “7 Rings,” “Stuck with You,” with Justin Bieber, and “Rain on Me” with Lady Gaga.  Ariana is now the holder of 20 Guinness records.

Oh, Morgan Wallen.  The country music star was just getting over the criticism he got after seen at a big house party during the pandemic, now this.  In a video, as Wallen was coming home with friends Sunday night, he could be heard using the N-word.  It’s a pretty casual use of the word, not threatening, but still - not cool. Wallen has been the #1 country music artist in the US for three weeks in a row, but that’s about to change.  Country radio stations are quickly removing him from airplay.  Wallen has put out a statement, “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

I saw someone on Twitter say they’d now heard more Morgan Wallen apologies than Morgan Wallen songs.

Maren Morris, who collaborated on the song "The Middle" with Wallen had this to say:

A woman has claimed that Star Wars actor Adam Driver attacked her on the set of a film.  Lidia Franco, his costar in the 2018 movie The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, said on a Portuguese radio podcast that Driver “a is a very bad person. He behaved very badly with me, physically.  He attacked me.”   Franco, who is 76 years old, says the attack didn’t have anything to do with a scene, and that it was a “a camouflaged assault with a chair.”  Franco did praise Driver’s acting skills, but said he was difficult on the set, asking that extras not look at him, or they’d be fired - and she says that did happen.   No one has ever made claims publicly like this about Driver.  He has yet to comment.

Amazon has put out a new spot for it’s Alexa device which has a new look....and they used the “new body” look to also promote the new Amazon Prime film, Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse starring Michael B Jordan.  It’s pretty funny...and mildly uncomfortable to watch, as a wife imagines MBJ as Alexa.
