The 92nd annual Academy Awards went down last night/this morning our time. South Korean film Parasite made history by becoming the first foreign language film to win Best Picture.
After a short speech by one of the films producers, the lights faded signaling the end of the usually much longer speech. But the audience demanded the lights be brought up again so the winners could continue. Parasite won a total of 4 awards, including Best Director for Bong Joon Ho.
Joaquin Phoenix won his first Academy Award after being nominated three times previously. He’s your Best Actor for the film Joker. He used his speech time not to thank anyone or talk about the film, but to address some of his political and social concerns, specifically animals rights, for which he is a big supporter.
Conversely, Rene Zellwegger thanked pretty much everyone as she won Best Actress for her role in the Judy Garland biopic Judy.
Brad Pitt is now an Oscar winner, picking up Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
During a live music montage of some past Best Song awards winners, Eminem made a surprise appearance, rapping his Oscar winning “Lose Yourself,” which won in 2003.
Eminem never showed up to receive the award back then, something he commented about on Twitter after the performance.
