The UAE cabinet has approved a AED 2 billion package to deal with damages to citizens' homes during the recent severe weather conditions.

A ministerial committee has been tasked with assessing the damage and disbursing compensation in coordination with federal and local authorities.

This was announced during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The cabinet commended the efforts of government and emergency response teams, as well as volunteers and the general public for tackling the challenges and coming together for the sake of the nation.

The cabinet reviewed the UAE's achievements in the tourism sector and updates to the UAE Tourism Strategy 2031, as well as efforts to enhance labour market efficiency.

The UAE's hotels attracted a total of 28 million guests in 2023, an increase of 11 per cent from the previous year, while the tourism sector's contribution to the GDP is expected to reach nearly AED 180 billion in 2023.

The cabinet also reviewed the UAE's economic agenda and achievements, including the negotiation and signing of comprehensive economic partnership agreements with more than 13 countries.

These agreements will help increase the country's exports by an additional value of AED 366 billion annually by 2031.
