More than 6.9 million passengers travelled through the Abu Dhabi Airports' network during the first quarter of 2024, marking a 35.6 per cent surge compared to the same period last year.

The operator of five airports in the emirate recorded a total of 61,737 aircraft movements from January to March 2024, buoyed by strong global demand for passenger and commercial services.

During this three-month period, Zayed International Airport alone welcomed over 6.8 million passengers, and registered a 26.6 per cent year-on-year increase in aircraft movements and 36 per cent growth in passenger traffic.

London maintained its status as the top destination city with nearly 290,000 passengers travelling to and from the English capital, while the top five destinations also included Mumbai, Kochi, Delhi and Doha.

In Q1 2024, Zayed International Airport expanded its database with the return of Turkmenistan Airlines and the launch of Hainan Airlines operating to Haikou, China, bringing the total number of regular scheduled operators to 29 airlines.

In addition to passenger growth, cargo traffic also registered significant expansion in Q1 2024, with 162,000 tonnes of air freight handled across the Abu Dhabi Airports network.

This marks a notable increase of 25.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2023 when the figure stood at 129,000 tonnes.
